A subject that we are always asked, that we explain again and we will not get tired of doing it. Sometimes it is tedious perhaps having to put a name to an image, think about what alternative text we put, description, etc. But it's the only way. There are no magic formulas, although we would like everything to be resolved through a plugin that, when activated, would leave the web page completely optimized, that in the worst case we would have to update something from time to time, but nothing more.

Optimize your website to have more visits

Recently, a client of ours told us that it was a bit absurd for him to have the images placed as we requested, a minimum of content, a structure, plugins that we do not use, deleted (not just deleted) and all the list that was so heavy He did it to have the web in the top positions.

And we realized that they were putting the point in the wrong place or that at least the reasons that we were trying to use were confusing or perhaps too technical. So we thought of making a simple list, easy to understand that encourages you to follow the steps to have the web correctly optimized and not waste too much time.

Why is website optimization important?

Because it is what you ask GoogleWe basically do it to please Google. Is a reality. Yes to Google he didn't care if our photographs weighed 400 kb and our hosting were almost unlimited, it is likely that almost no one would care to upload small images. The same would happen with videos, with fonts, etc.

what do you want Google that your website is optimized? We can fall into technical issues but the simple reality is that Google wants its results to be what the user expects, to find quality information without spending its data rate or waiting 5 minutes to finish downloading your entire page. Google wants efficiency and that can only happen if the web is optimized.

But optimized It does not mean that you only have to leave the small photos, with their names, uploaded correctly and that H1 and H2 are selected. Hopefully! Optimized means much more and we are going to explain it to you in a few points:

  1. Reduced images: Reduced implies that it does not weigh more than 100 kb (and this is already an exaggeration) the ideal is to keep it below 45 or 60 kb but in many cases when they are images for a slide or banner, it is difficult not to lose quality. It is there where we must think about whether or not it compensates that it weighs more or that it loses quality.
  2. Correctly names pages, posts and multimedia: What steps do you take when looking for something? You are probably looking for something on Google such as: Cardboard boxes Barcelona. With this same logic, if you sell cardboard boxes, you should put cajas-carton.jpg in your images (remember no accents or strange symbols) and in your slug (also known as url, although it is much more, we'll talk about this later). color something like domain.com/carton-boxes Simple! You would already have solved something super important.
  3. Speed: The issue of speed brings all developers upside down. But according to statistics, a person waits an average of 2 to 3 seconds for a page to load, depending on which countries where the connection is worse, the wait goes up to 5 or even 10 seconds. So how do we get our website to "fly"? If you know the expression more is less then you will understand where we are going. Less plugins, less heavy photographs and more text, less code and the web will be better. It is not always possible, sometimes we have to put the information that is necessary... so do it in the best possible way.
  4. Plugins limited to the minimum: What I was saying before, a website with many plugins will weigh more and it will slow down the web. There are many plugins that are full of unnecessary code, this code needs to be loaded for your website to be displayed. Go adding: Photographs, plugins, hosting slow… the objective of a fast web evaporates.
  5. Slow hosting: There are some hostings that, apart from being bad, are slow, that crash quickly (and not because they saturate the bandwidth). These are usually low cost hosting and the low price then brings this with it, a slow hosting.
